Jang started against the Samsung Lions in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Baseball Stadium on Nov. 23, giving up four runs on seven hits in five innings with 70 pitches, no walks and four strikeouts to reach 130 career wins.

Jang did not back down easily. As Lee had predicted, Jang gave up four runs, but he chose to keep him in the game instead of replacing him. Jang Won-jun, who had the win-loss record, remained steadfast on the mound. From the moment he gave up a leadoff single to Oh Jae-il in the top of the fourth inning, the Doosan bullpen began to warm up, as Kim Myung-shin promptly retired Kim Tae-gun on an infield single to shortstop. In the top of the fifth, Kim got Kim Ji-chan, Kim Hyun-joon, and Goo Ja-rook into another triple play to end the inning.

It had been 1798 days since Jang Won-jun had pitched five innings since June 20, 2018, when he gave up six runs in five innings against the Jamsil Nexen Heroes (now Kiwoom).

With his mission accomplished, Jang Won-jun was replaced by Park Chi-guk in the top of the sixth inning. Now it’s up to the bullpen juniors to protect Jang’s 130 win requirement for four innings.
